Little Black Kitten

A little black kitten appears to have “adopted” us. She is about 8 months old now and we know that she is related to Sid, being born to the same mother but a litter later.

We have been feeding her since she was about 10 weeks old – well, we couldn’t let her go hungry, could we?! Although, at that time she was very much “feral” and wouldn’t let us anywhere near her.
Gradually, over many weeks, she has become much more confident in our company and we have got to the point of being able to pick her up and cuddle her (which she loves by the way), purring and kneading like mad!

She is a very vocal kitten – feral kittens are normally taught by their mum to be very quiet so as to avoid danger. Perhaps that is why mum told her to leave home when she did – she was too noisy!

Sid isn’t 100% sure of her, although they spend a lot of time outside sitting about a metre apart just watching each other. I think Sid might be a bit jealous of the kitten having a tail, whilst she doesn’t have a tail – she was patting the kitten’s tail this morning!

She has a little plastic home outside at the side of the house with a nice warm blanket so she doesn’t get too cold at night, and she is very fond of that. She is always up in the morning around the back of the house waiting for her breakfast when Mango is let out in the morning.

I don’t think the kitten will come into the house as Mango is too boisterous, but I think she is quite content with life as it is, for the time being (we won't let her know that if she stays around much longer, then she will have to visit the vet's for "the snip"!)
