Following the loss of little Kitkat, I decided to do what I could to help the feral cat population of Pearly Beach and the surrounding areas.
The cats do a very useful job keeping down the mouse and rat population and are needed around, but many of the cats are unable to find enough food for themselves and their kittens; there are too many kittens being born, they are not healthy, and therefore they struggle to survive. Many of them carry the parasite causing biliary, a deadly disease, not unlike malaria in humans. Unfortunately, there is no vaccine for it, and it causes many deaths among the feral cats.
I, therefore, decided to try and raise money to help the local animal welfare centre, and have committed to run a half marathon. If I succeed at this, then I will attempt a marathon.
I know... it's a lot of hard work and training. I've been out running three times a week for the last, oh, I don't know, it must be at least six months! Yes, that is a picture of me running in Pearly Beach!
And I will keep going...
Body permitting...
I have my first 5km race in April, which I am looking forward to, and a 10km race a few weeks after that, in May. Then I will start to run further (I hope) - I need to work up to at least 21km!
Watch this space!
